Tipton Academy is located in Tipton, Kansas in the Blue Hills region of North Central Kansas. Tipton is a farming community, rich in family values; it offers a unique opportunity for boys to slow their busy schedule down and focus on the more important things in life.The rural setting is ideal for youth that are striving to make changes in their lives.

Tipton Kansas

Tipton (population 243) is located just south of picturesque Solomon River Valley in Mitchell County in North Central Kansas. About 10 miles north of Tipton is the Waconda Lake and Glen Elder State Park, a 12,500 acre reservoir surrounded by 13,200 acres of wildlife land. Located about 30 miles south of Tipton is one of the largest and most scenic lakes in Kansas, Wilson Lake. Tipton is located about 15 miles south of Downs, 27 miles southwest of Beloit, 52 miles northeast of Russell and 83 miles northwest of Salina.

Tipton School

The Tipton Academy Facility was built in 1976 and was previously the Tipton elementary school which was closed in 2003 during school district consolidation. The beautiful campus sits on the edge of Tipton in the north central part of Kansas. The school has several indoor and outdoor basketball courts, and a regulation volleyball court. There are approximately 6 acres of land which include some very beautiful grass areas that are used for football, softball, and soccer. One concern many parents have is that of not sending their son away to be rewarded for his negative behavior at home. We agree with this philosophy, but it is also important to reward the boys when they make appropriate choices. This also allows the boys and the staff to grow to appreciate each other in a more casual and relaxed setting. We also believe that while your child may need help we do not want to take away his childhood.

Transportation to Tipton

Salina Airport

The nearest airport is in Salina. Salina offers many places for families to stay and a variety of restaurants and activities. Many people prefer to fly in to Wichita (ICT) or Kansas City (MCI) and drive to the facility because of more frequent flights scheduled to the larger airports.

Local Weather

Tornadoes

One question parents have had about a program being located in Kansas is the risk of Tornadoes. People who have lived in the area most of their lives have told us they have never seen one. In the event of a tornado, the Tipton Academy building is the local shelter. The boys will be safe if there ever were to be a natural disaster of this nature.
